pens.
The History of Pens
4,000 B.C people used hollowed out reeds as early "pens"
500 B.C feathers where used as pens. People cut a slit at the end of the feather so the ink would come out smoothly
1800's steel nib pens are invented
late 1800's fountain pens are made in mass production, fountain pens were the first pens to have an ink reservoir.
1888 Ball-point pens are made, but aren't given much attention.
1939 Ball-point pens are used more by World War 2 plane flyers because they did not leak like fountain pens did at high altitudes.
1960's roller ball and soft tip pens are made
the structure of a ballpoint pen.
the bottom of a ballpoint pen is solid plastic. the middle part is hollow and holds the ink in a ink reservoir.
the top holds the ball. that rolls when you write with it. the ink in ballpoint pens is thick so it wont dribble out around the ball.
I hope this post has been helpful to all who read it

Hey Paxson. Good to see you back. I really liked the article about pens. Very interesting. When I was in 6th grade, I actually had an ink well and a fountain pen that I dipped in the well. One of my friends had long braids and the boy who sat behind her dipped one of her braids in his ink well! I think in Jr. High I was using regular ball point pens. keep up the good work.
@ Suzi. That sucks for the girl with the long braids!! Its not fun when boys like to touch your hair. a couple of boys would grab my pigtails and say "MILK THE COW" Over and over again so annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
